Public Art

A pioneer in the field of Public Art, Ogden was the first Utah city to enact a Percent for Art program which it adopted by ordinance in 1997. The program specifies that 1% of eligible city capital improvement project funds be set aside for the commission, purchase and installation of works to form a collection of art for the citizens of Ogden. By providing opportunities for individuals to encounter art in parks, libraries, community centers, on roadways and other public venues, we simultaneously enrich citizens' daily lives and give voice to artists.

A society that creates art— to express their values, to delight and amuse, to challenge or startle people out of their everyday mindset— is a healthy and vibrant society. Public and community art projects, done well, can enliven human connections and support democracy in a community.
