Grounds for Coffee, Harrison

3005 Harrison Boulevard, Ogden Utah - one mile north of Weber State University, this shop transforms itself throughout the day. Mornings bring in the busy "nine to fiver" who just wants a quick cup on the way to work. Midday you'll find a more leisurely mix meeting friends and colleagues. By evening it becomes a hip, college hangout. Truly an alternative to the typical bar scene, Grounds for Coffee on Harrison is the place to be for popular culture. Each month we open our walls up to a local artist. Open 7 days a week from 5:30am until 11pm.

Cara Koolmees

My Southern California roots inspire the bold saturated color of my watercolor paintings. While I seek to evoke my feelings of “nouns” (persons, places, and things), I do not try to recreate, but to record how the subjects’ color touches me. Using yellow-based pigment to begin my painting, I try to convey a warm sunny glow throughout. I am more interested in happy feelings than in a somber, moody piece. Excitement describes my initial beginning and I try to continue that energy throughout the painting. I do not rely on spatial interpretations to define my pictures, but rather use color and line to move the eye around my composition. Included in my treatments are details put in as loosely and simply as possible. I am intrigued with buildings, as owners think of them as their “babies”. I interpret them as building portraits. I do love the beach as I grew up seeing people on the beach and in the water. It renews in me the whimsical, colorful side of us. I would like to invite the viewer to come inside my paintings and take a look around instead of standing outside observing from a distance.

Ben Lomond Suites Historic Hotel

Located on Historic 25th Street of downtown Ogden, Utah Ben Lomond Suites Historic Hotel started life as the five-story Reed Hotel in 1891. In 1927 the hotel was completely reworked in an attempt to create a fire proof hotel. Eleven stories were added and the hotel was renamed the Bigelow Hotel. In 1933 Marriner S. Eccles aquired the hotel and renamed it the Ben Lomond Hotel. Then in the 1980s the 350 room hotel was completely renovated and converted to a 120 suite condo-hotel. The Ben Lomond is the last of the three “grand hotels” in Utah that is still being operated as a hotel. Evidence of this legacy can be seen in the crystal chandeliers, marble floors and decorative ceilings as you enter the lobby of this historic hotel, which is listed on both the Utah & National Historic Registers.

Imagine Ballet Theater

Imagine Ballet Theatre was created and organized in 2004, under the vision and direction of Raymond Van Mason, former Ballet West Principal Artist and nationally recognized choreographer and teacher. He wanted to create a pre-professional "youth" ballet company to afford aspiring young dancers professional training and performance experience. The Company may utilize up to sixty dancers, ages nine and up, in a regular season. IBT makes it's home in downtown Ogden on Washington Blvd. and 24th street.
